5. COURSE PREAMBLE

Archaeology is a magical gateway to the past. It is the discipline that complements History best with its hard evidences and methodological advantages. The discipline of archaeology studies human cultures and past. Through recovery and interpretation of architectures, artefacts, bio facts, and landscapes. Archaeology as a discipline falls within the special category of social science but with a multidisciplinary approach. Because of advances in methods and theory, archaeology now addresses issues central to debates in the social sciences in a far more sophisticated manner than ever before. Archaeology can now make significant contributions to the broader social sciences.

8. COURSE OBJECTIVES

Learners are expected to

(a)       Introduces the contributions and approaches of the most important archaeologists who contributed in the discipline.

(b)      Have a basic knowledge on the evolution of archaeology from antiquarianism to the scientific archaeology.

(c)       To get an overview of archaeological excavations in historically important sites around the world
